Share
(savings) & Share Draft (checking)
Take advantage of our competitively
priced savings and investment accounts. We offer a variety of
products to fulfill your financial needs:
Share Account (savings)
This account is called a share account instead of a savings
account because every member is part owner of the credit
union. The minimum balance to open this account is $5.00.
There is a one-time membership fee of $3.00. Once the
balance reaches $100.00, dividends are paid. Dividends are
compounded daily and credited monthly.

Share Draft (checking)
We pay dividends on share draft accounts. Upon opening a new
checking account, a member receives 50 free
checks. Easy to read statements are sent
out monthly. There are no per check clearing charges and NO
MINIMUM BALANCE requirements. Members also have free
overdraft protection between the share (savings) account and
the share draft account. For added over-draft protection,
the credit union also offers Courtesy Pay to eligible
members. For details, contact the credit union at
610-376-8217.
Share Draft Application
Berks Community Federal Credit Union
now offers eligible members the Courtesy Pay privilege. The
new service is an extra layer of protection for your share
draft account. If you overdraw your share draft account and
you do not have enough funds in your share account to cover
the overdraft through overdraft protection, Courtesy Pay
will cover the insufficient funds up to $500. This means the
credit union will not return a check to the merchant because
of insufficient funds; the credit union will pay the check,
saving you return check fees. You will only be charged the
credit union’s Courtesy Pay fee of $25 when you use the
service. The service can be accessed through transactions
via: Internet Home Branching, Audio Response, ATMs (you will
be able to access the courtesy pay funds up to your
available ATM balance), point of sale debit and credit,
teller windows, ACH, and checks.
Courtesy Pay will cover Overdrafts on
your checking account, up to a limit of $500 (including the
amount of the overdrawn item(s) and the Courtesy Pay fee(s).
The $25 fee will be assessed to each insufficient item that
draws your account negative. Once you have activated the
Courtesy Pay privilege, you have up to 30 days to bring the
account to a positive balance for at least 24 hours. If you
fail to do so, you will lose the Courtesy Pay privilege and
the insufficient items will be forwarded to the credit
bureau. You will be notified by mail 10 days, 20 days, and
30days after you have activated the Courtesy Pay service.
You do not need to enroll in the
Courtesy Pay program. You will be automatically enrolled as
long as you are a member in good standing which includes
having a share draft account with the credit union for at
least 60 days, you make regular deposits into your account,
bring your account back to a positive balance regularly, and
there are no legal orders against the account. Members who
do not want to use the Courtesy Pay privilege may opt out at
any time. You can opt out by contacting Candy Bucks at
610-376-8217.
The Courtesy Pay program is a
privilege that we extend to eligible credit union members.
Courtesy Pay is under the complete discretion of the credit
union. Berks Community Federal Credit Union is not obligated
to pay any overdraft item. If you have any questions about
the Courtesy Pay program, please contact the credit union.

Debit / ATM cards
MasterMoney™/STAR® Debit/ATM Cards (formerly MasterMoney™/MAC
Debit/ATM Cards) are available for members with share draft
accounts. The MasterMoney/STAR card allows a member to
access his/her account at an ATM machine and at millions of
merchants around the world where MasterCard™ is accepted.
What's the Difference?....between signing for a check card
purchase (credit) and entering your PIN number (debit)? The
answer is interchange!!! Every time you use your MasterMoney™/STAR®
Debit/ATM Card and sign for your purchases, your credit
union receives a small portion of that transaction, called
interchange, which the credit union gives back to you in the
form of higher dividend rates. Plus, the money still comes
directly from your checking account. So, sign for those
check card purchases and pay yourself!!
